New Ghana PL headline sponsor to be announced next week

Ghana Football Association communications director Ibrahim Sannie Daara says discussions are far advanced to seal a headline sponsorship deal for the Premier League.

The top flight has been without a main sponsor since First Capital Plus Bank – now Capital Bank – seceded its support in 2015 over restructuring reasons.

Last week, Nana Appiah Mensah, a renowned local business mogul, announced that one of his outfits will soon take up the slot as headline sponsor.

“It’s a very important deal for Ghana football and discussions are very far advanced," Sannie said, as reported by Citinewsroom

"We are hoping that the deal is concluded by next week so that Ghanaian clubs and football fans will smile.

“It is something that will satisfy all football loving people.

"The FA has been working very hard over the past years to secure a sponsor."

The lack of headline sponsor has increased the financial burden of clubs, at times, putting the topflight in jeopardy.

In 2016, New Edubiase United managed to complete the season due to a dire financial situation, following the FA’s failure to secure sponsorship for the league.

Last season, Bolga All Stars cited financial struggles as reason for their relegation after just one season in the elite division.
