Advertisers Bill set for parliament soon 

Work on the bill to guide and regulate the operations of advertising and marketing firms in the country have been completed and tabled before the cabinet for onward submission to parliament.

Minister-designate for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah disclosed this during a keynote address at the 12 Gong Gong awards by the Advertising Association of Ghana, AAG.

Mr Oppong Nkrumah said, "One of the surest ways to tackle the challenges in the advertising space is by the promulgation of a single policy document to regulate the Industry.

This advertising bill has been spoken about for a while now and I’m happy to inform you that work on the bill has been completed and it is now tabled before the cabinet,” he added.

"My task as an incoming minister by the Grace of God is to liaise with the Ministry of Trade and Industry, that is shepherding this bill to complete whatever outstanding work on it so that parliament can receive and pass it into law," he said.

The Bill, when passed, will ensure that advertisers become competitive to be able to support Economic growth.

The Bill also seeks to address the many gaps in the advertising industry. 

President of the AAG, Torgbor Mensah in his address charged members of the association to uphold the good standards of advertising in the country.

He said, "We have to move forward because, in everything we do as an association, we have to improve every year. The next award will see a new set of segmentation for the categories thereby giving a reward to more deserving creative ideas" he said, adding that "we are adding technology to what we do.

The award under the theme ‘technology, brand purpose and the empowered consumer’ saw Onga Longest Feast table winning the activation advert of the year by the EXP Ghana, Pay like a boss by Insel Communication won the financial services experimental advert of the year. 

For the automobile category, a good turn by the Innova DDB won the press advert of the year and among others.

Minister for Business Development, Mohammed Awal received the Life Time Achievement award for the night.

The ceremony was attended by industry players across the value chain including the Association of Ghana Industries, AGI, the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana, CIMG and some manufacturing firms.
