Citi TV’s Apiorkor stuns at ‘The Matriarch’s Verse’ [Photos]

Ghana’s Poetry Goddess, Apiorkor Seyiram Ashong-Abbey took patrons through a maze of words at her maiden poetry concert last Friday.

The broadcast journalist and poet hosted ‘The Matriarch’s Verse’ on Friday, 12th October, 2018 at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra.

It was a show poetry, music and arts.

The Matriarch’s Verse was meant to catapult Apiorkor and her craft, onto a global stage, through live interaction with poetry lovers, art enthusiasts, academics, socialites, opinion and thought leaders, expats living in Ghana and the general public.

All performances/ readings were laced with music (live/recorded), dance, culinary art (such as food displayed on human platters), drama, photography, videography or fashion displays.

The Kwan Pa Band, Musical Lunatics and a string quartet from the National Symphony Orchestra gave back line support to the performances.

Apiorkor and other performers presented poems on the Experience of the Ghanaian Woman, Urban Issues and The Human Experience through Apiorkor’s Empathetic Eyes.

There were also music performances from Ria Boss and Quayba who tinged the ocean of poetry on the night with drops of delectable melodies.

Other poets like Hondred Percent, Dzyadzorm and Chrystal Tetteh also dazzled patron with their compositions.

One surprise on the night was Philip Kofi Ashon of Citi TV, who mounted the stage to recite poems he had composed. His poems were themed on love.

Playwright and poet, Chief Moomen, was the MC for the maiden edition of the Matriarch’s Verse. He was entertaining, articulate and in charge.

Also present at the programme were Professor Kofi Anyidoho, actress Juliet Asante, among others.

Apiorkor Seyiram Ashong-Abbey is an award-winning Ghanaian-American Poet, Writer, Literary Critic and Versatile Creative.

Her work is noted for its rare narrative, prosaic nature, which is uncommon, in poetry. She has also been commended for the sharp, vivid imagery of her pieces.
