'I am a registered voter in Ellembelle not in Madina'

'I am a registered voter in Ellembelle not in Madina'

The Western Regional Treasurer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) who is aspiring to be a parliamentary candidate for the party in Ellembelle, Anna Akaisi Horma Miezah, has stated that she is a registered voter in the Constituency.

Her comment comes as a result of a press conference organised by some supporters of the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area Kwasi Bonzoh who is an aspirant at Esiama on Wednesday, September 11, 2019, accusing her of being untruthful person.

These supporters described themselves as Concerned Delegates of Ellembelle NPP.

According to them, Horma Akaisi Miezah who is entering the race for the first time, has been giving untruthful accounts regarding where she voted in past elections.

They claimed that the female aspirant has been voting at Madina in the the Greater Region since 2012 and therefore urged the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party to disqualify her if possible.

“In the 2012 final voters register, the then Asante-Asare Anna Horma did not have her name in the voters register for the Ellembelle constituency. Her name, we rather found, at the Evangelistic Charismatic Ministry polling station in the Madina Constituency of the Greater Accra Region. We did same search in the 2016 final voters register and we also discovered that she registered and voted at the Madina constituency”, they claimed.

The leader of the group Awulae Blay at the press conference projected graphic evidence of both 2012 and 2016 voters register and stated that “In the 2012 final voters register, the then Asante-Asare Anna Horma did not have her name in the voters register for the Ellembelle constituency”.

They continued that “Her name, we rather found, at the Evangelistic Charismatic Ministry polling station in the Madina Constituency of the Greater Accra Region. We did same search in the 2016 final voters register and we also discovered that she registered and voted at the Madina constituency”.

“What is more? We searched throughout the polling stations in Ekwe, extended it to the constituency for both 2012 and 2016 general elections, and we did not find the Asante-Asare Anna Horma or the Anna Horma Akaisi Miezah she has on her posters in the register. This evidence is a public document and anyone can crosscheck from the Electoral Commission”, Mr. Blay added.

But speaking to the media after checking her name in the national voter’s register at Eikwe Market Center polling station in Ellembelle, the NPP’s Western Regional Treasurer, Anna Akaisi Horma Miezah said she was here to check her name with massive followers because her contenders were saying she was not a registered voter in Ellembelle Constituency.

She emphasized that she comes from Eikwe in the Constituency and she was a registered voter in the area.

“My contenders have said it here that I don’t come from Ellembelle, I am not a registered voter here, I hail from Eikwe where I stand today, this is my polling station, I vote here, I am a registered voter in Ellembelle”, she stressed.

This Reporter independently verified from the Electoral Officers at the polling station and the aspirant’s name was in the 2016 final voter’s register and Electoral Officers ticked her name in the register.

At the time of registering as a voter, the aspirant was having this name, Mrs. Asante Asare Anna Horma as a wife to one Mr. Asante Asare but divorced after 2016 and filed an affidavit in court to change her name to Anna Akaisi Horma Miezah.

She, therefore seized the opportunity to call for unity ahead of the September 28 parliamentary primaries and 2020 parliamentary elections.

She urged the party members to channel their energies on the NDC not on the NPP.

“We have one party and the people that are fighting with us are not within the NPP. The Parliamentary Primaries is supposed to help us elect someone who is going to lead the party in the Constituency”, she said.

She charged any agrieved member of the party to pass through the structures in the party than to resort to the media to wash the party’s dirty linen in public.

“As a Regional Executive, I believe that we have structures in the party and if anyone feels agrieved, if anyone has a problem, you are supposed to go through the various structures in the party to seek remedy, you don’t go to the media. Going to the media means, we are washing our dirty clothes in public, at the end of the day, whatever we are throwing out there to the public, we should remember that is going to haunt us”, she disclosed.

She said “I, Anna Akaisi Horma Miezah, formerly Anna Asante Asare, I am calling out to my people wherever they are, I am here to take the seat for the NPP”.

She pledged her total commitment to work with the grassroots to beat the incumbent NDC’s Member of Parliament for the area, Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah in 2020.

“… Coming 2020, Armah Buah, the NDC in Ellembelle, we are saying we had enough of your rule. We are taking the seat together with my delegates, all who are surrounding me here today, a lot of them are home watching us today, I am saying that the seat whether Armah Buah likes it or not we are uprooting him like cassava”, the charged aspirant told the NPP supporters.

She called on the Constituents to rally behind the NPP government and continue to have faith in the government because the Akufo-Addo-led government had development-oriented programmes for the Constituency.

“…The NPP has a lot of packages for the people. We are more concerned about the development of our people, we are not here to squander, we are not here to loot, we are here to help the people of Ellembelle”, she stated.

She continued, “Ellembelle NPP has never had a female parliamentary candidate and as a Regional Treasurer, I am putting myself out here and together with my delegates, I believe when elected, I will lead this party to victory in 2020”.

She cautioned that “Those of us as NPP members, executives who have decided to allow the NDC to infiltrate into our camp to cause confusion into our camp, I am sending a word of caution to them to desist from it and as a Regional Executive, will make sure those people will be brought to book so if you have any issue in the party, pass through the structures”.

The aspirant seized the opportunity to urge delegates to vote against any aspirant who would mingle with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The NPP is expected to hold its parliamentary primaries in all orphan Constituencies across the country on Saturday, September 28, 2019 of which Ellembelle Constituency is part.

Three aspirants are contesting for the vacancy in Ellembelle Constituency and they are; Ellembelle DCE, Hon. Kwasi Bonzoh, NPP Western Regional Treasurer, Anna Akaisi Hormah Miezah and Isaac Menlah.

The Ellembelle parliamentary seat is being occupied by Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah of NDC.
