Unprofessional Police Conduct: We are responsible - Sam George

Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Mr Sam Nartey George, is blaming politicians for the recent cases of police brutality and unprofessionalism exhibited by some police personnel.

According to the lawmaker, the politicisation of the recruitment process for personnel into the police service is partly to blame for the unprofessional conduct of some personnel of the service.

To him, politicians must stop interfering in the work of the police.

“I am a politician but sometimes I feel sad because my own colleague politicians should be blamed for the lawlessness of the police. I see it as a political problem. The politicians are the influencers but the police officers are the facilitators,” he said on Accra based Neat FM monitored by Adomonline.com.

Three Ghanaian Times journalists from a day’s assignment were beaten up mercilessly by a police officer and nine other officers at Kinbu in Accra Central for daring to confront one Sgt. Ebenezer Asiedu for flouting road traffic regulations.

Sgt. Asiedu is said to have also committed a traffic offence when he recklessly rode his unregistered motorbike to hit a vehicle belonging to the Ghanaian Times reporters.

Mr George, who has said he does not feel safe in the country and does not trust the Ghana Police Service, claimed the Inspector General of Police, David Asante-Apeatu has failed to be on top of the nation’s security.

He stated that in as much as politicians are the problem, the police should also stand up for their rights.
